Summary
Liliana Vela hates the term victim. She’s not a victim, she’s a fighter. Stubborn and strong with a quiet elegance, she’s determined to take back her life after escaping the clutches of human traffickers in her poor Mexican village. But she can’t stay safely over the border in America–unless the man who aided in her rescue is serious about his unconventional proposal to marry her.

Meric Toledan was just stopping at a service station for a bottle of water. Assessing the situation, he steps in to rescue Liliana from the traffickers. If he can keep his secrets at bay, his wealth and position afford him many resources to help her. But the mysterious buyer who funded her capture will not sit idly by while his prize is stolen from him.

My Review
This was a captivating and fast-paced read, thanks to the intriguing and engaging storyline. The flow of the story was well-written. Funny thought; this book felt like a written version of the series ‘Night Agent’ with the marriage trope and without all the political mess the series entails.

Meric, as a character, truly stood out and set a high standard with his kindness, thoughtfulness, and gentle nature. His actions throughout the story demonstrated a depth of character that was both inspiring and endearing. Liliana’s bravery and determination was a teachable skill.

I particularly appreciated the development of the relationship between them. Their journey from the atypical initial encounter to deeper emotional connections was thoughtfully portrayed. However, I did feel that the pacing of the story was a little uneven—while some parts were beautifully fleshed out, the ending felt a bit rushed, almost as though everything was wrapped up too quickly.

The action scenes were intense and added an exciting dynamic to the story, even though I’m not always drawn to action-heavy narratives.

Above all, I loved the moral of the story. If you enjoy a thrilling mystery packed book, this one is for you.
